ZYS Achieves Major Breakthroughs in International Standardization for Rolling Bearings

Standards serve as the technical foundation of industrial development, the primary vehicle for technological innovation, and a core strategic resource in global industrial competitiveness. As China accelerates its transition from a major bearing manufacturer to a global bearing powerhouse, the strategic role of standardization has become more prominent than ever.

Luoyang Bearing Research Institute Co., Ltd. (ZYS)—which hosts the secretariats of the National Technical Committee on Rolling Bearings of Standardization Administration of China (SAC/TC98), ISO/TC4/SC6 (Insert Bearings), and ISO/TC4/SC11 (Linear Motion Rolling Bearings)—has fully advanced the formulation and revision of international standards in these critical fields. These efforts have yielded remarkable achievements, driving the high-quality development of the global insert bearing and linear motion rolling bearing industries.

A Historic Milestone: Official Publication of ISO 19457

On July 2, 2026, the international standard ISO 19457, “Rolling bearings - Roller blocks as subassemblies for linear motion rolling bearings – Boundary dimensions and tolerance values,” led and developed by ZYS, was officially published.

Linear motion roller blocks are critical components widely utilized in high-end equipment such as precision CNC machine tools and semiconductor manufacturing devices. ISO 19457 specifies the structural types, dimensions, tolerances, and technical requirements for these roller blocks. By unifying product specifications and technical indicators across different countries, this standard paves the way for greater standardization, regulation, and high-end development in the international market.

Approved as an official project in October 2022, the development of ISO 19457 spanned three years and nine months. The process involved 16 international working group meetings and generated over 170 working group documents. Thanks to the collaborative efforts of experts from China, Austria, Japan, Germany, the United Kingdom, Russia, the United States, and other member nations, the standard has been successfully delivered. This achievement marks the fourth international standard led by China in the rolling bearing field and represents China's first led international standard in the sector of linear motion rolling bearings.

Securing New Leadership Roles in Global Standard Frameworks

In May 2026, following a vote by the member countries of ISO/TC4/SC6, ZYS was officially appointed to lead the drafting of two new international standards:

• ISO 25260-1: Rolling bearings-Insert bearing units-Part 1: Geometrical Product Specifications (GPS) and tolerance values for insert bearings and eccentric locking collars

• ISO 25260-2: Rolling bearings-Insert bearing units-Part 2: Geometrical Product Specifications (GPS) and tolerance values for cast and pressed housings

Together with the previously ongoing project ISO 25260-3 (Rolling bearings-Insert bearing units-Part 3: Boundary dimensions for mounting), these standards will significantly optimize the international insert bearing standard framework, steering the global industry toward higher quality and technological transformation.

Looking Forward

ZYS remains committed to driving high-quality industrial development through robust standardization efforts. Moving forward, ZYS will continue to strengthen standard leadership and elevate international standardization practices. By working with a higher strategic posture, a broader global perspective, and practical implementation measures, ZYS will continue to contribute to the high-quality development of both domestic and global bearing industries.
